About David Matthews

David Matthews David Matthews is a freelance photographer caught up in a whirlwind of passion for his art. Over the years he has developed a keen eye for photographing everyday items in the most unique way imaginable. He photographs natural occurrences of letters in the alphabet, and much to his surprise, his A to Z Illusions have begun to reach the world. A big believer in living your dream, David volunteered in the literacy program at a local school. Working with one struggling child, he invented a game to find letters among everyday things like classroom desks and chairs. The dream grew from helping one child, to a universal appeal and this avid photographer has never looked back. David is trained at the college level in photography and processing and has been a photographer for over 40 years. When asked about some of his award winning photos, David insists that although it is nice to be recognized, the real joy for him is becoming wrapped up in the moment with each subject from a simple blade of grass to celebrities and even Royalty. “When people look at a photo and they can see your passion, that’s the real reward. They spell a familiar word or name in a photographic theme that means something to them and you can see the comfort in their eyes,” he says. This heartwarming concept appeals to anyone at any age from any walk of life. “I’ve sold Lettergraphs for everything from a baby shower gift, to musical themed words for the home of a country singer,” he says. David is no stranger to the world, having spent a career traveling as a photojournalist and then an industrial and commercial photographer, which taught him the importance of appealing to the heart of the viewer. As immersed as he has been in his photographic journey, David has always found ways to contribute to his local community and truly loves the challenge of lifelong learning. He has enjoyed exploring everything from community volunteerism to training as a pilot, firefighter, educator, artist, clown and magician. David now offers photography tips in an ebook called “Improve Your Photography by 5:45 This Afternoon,” to help other people achieve their own personal success. A to Z Illusions offers a vast library of letter images to create your vision and the letter library is forever expanding.
